Imam – Q5

According to Abu Hazim, Sahl ibn Sa’d al-Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) used to put forward young men from his people to lead them in prayer as imams. He was told: You do this even though you have such seniority in Islam? He replied: I indeed heard the Prophet ﷺ say: The imam is responsible. If he performs well, then it is for him and for them; and if he performs poorly, then it is against him and not against them. Reported by Ibn Majah, no. 981, and authenticated by Shaykh al-Albani in his verification of Sunan Ibn Majah.
