On the authority of Abu Mas’ud al-Ansari, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said that the one who leads people in prayer should be the one who recites the Book of Allah best among them. If they are equal in that regard, give preference to the one with greater knowledge of the Sunnah. (Reported by Muslim, 1530)
