His marriage to Zaynab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her) was ordered by Allah to demonstrate the abolition of legal adoption. This is mentioned in the Qur’an: “Then, when Zayd had ended his relationship with her, We married her to you…” (Qur’an 33:37).
