According to Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said that whoever keeps a dog, except for guarding livestock or for hunting, will see his good deeds reduced by two qirats each day. Sahih al-Bukhari, no. 2322; Sahih Muslim, no. 1574.
