Allah – Q4

Ar-Rahman is the One who possesses immense mercy, because the fa’alaan pattern in Arabic signifies magnitude. Ar-Rahim is an attribute that conveys an act, because the fa’iil pattern (equivalent here to the fa’il pattern) denotes the doer of the act. Thus, taken together, Ar-Rahman and Ar-Rahim indicate the vastness of divine mercy and that the whole creation benefits from it. (Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen, excerpt from Sharh al-Aqida al-Wasitiyya, 1/22)
